Residents were left shocked when cops arrived with a TLB to a tavern in Tibane Village in GaMatlala outside Polokwane, Limpopo, to dig up what is believed to be human body parts.
The body parts were dug up on Monday, 25 April, and Tuesday, 26 April.
The tavern is owned by a prominent businessman who was arrested more than two weeks ago together with his accomplice for suspected muthi-related killing. The digging-up operation came as a result of the police investigation into the case of Ronald Makgato from Mamehlabe Village, who went missing in 2006 while he was in Soshanguve, north of Tshwane.
Marcus Khomi Makgato (64), who runs an accommodation business and Joshua Hlako (64), who runs a bus transportation service, were arrested over two weeks ago and are expected to appear in the Seshego Magistrates Court on Thursday, 28 April.
The police started digging up at Hlako’s house in zone 4 in Seshego on Monday and proceeded to his tavern on Tuesday. Meanwhile, another team was digging in Nakene Lodge, which is owned by Makgato, who is related to Ronald.
Ronald’s sister, Granny Makgato-Leboho, told Daily Sun they are relieved and satisfied with the police’s work as there is light in the matter.
Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mamphaswa Seabi said the police were following every lead in the quest to find evidence. “We are pleading with the community of Seshego and Tibane to remain calm and refrain from any acts of vigilantism while our investigations continue,” he said.
