Protests over water woes continue in parts of Durban

Thursday marked day three of ongoing protests over rampant service delivery issues in suburbs north of Durban.

The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) communities in areas including Phoenix and Verulam have been protesting, particularly over water outages.

Some residents said they had not had water for several months now.

While water outages have become an unwelcome norm in parts of Durban north, Umhlanga has been largely exempt from the horror, until Thursday morning, when the area also found itself with dry taps.

Earlier this week, the Democratic Alliance (DA) in KZN approached the Human Rights Commission over the matter, calling for the eThekwini metro municipality to account for the ongoing water woes.

Meanwhile, officials within the municipality insist they have a standard 24-hour response timeframe to any media queries.

On Thursday afternoon, city officials were set to address the media and give clarity on plans to address the issue.
