Update: Things get out of hand as Caps United players besiege VP offices

Update: Things get out of hand as Caps United players besiege VP offices. On Tuesday morning players decided to face the club’s top hierarchy to express their displeasure over the salary issue in the wake of the pandemic coronavirus aka COVID-19. The players are reported to have not received their dues from the club since March 2020.

Following the pulling out of their principal sponsor, Netone Cellular in April, Caps United has been struggling to meet players’ monthly financial obligations. The development has literally seen the club failing to pay salaries for the past three months.

Sportbrief has it on good authority that Netone Cellular paid a lump sum of ZWL$433 000 to the financially challenged Makepekepe side with the intention of cushioning the club’s salary arrears.

It is alleged that only part of the money reached the players’ pockets while the rest is not clear how it was used. Tuesday’s demonstration by players is reported to be a reaction to the alleged misuse of funds. The Green Machine management locked themselves in their offices whilst bullish Tutisani faced the players head-on.

Unpredictable words were exchanged between the employer and the employees, with the players demanding their money and clearance letters. In recorded audio in possession of Sportbrief, the ever bullish Tutisani is heard telling winger Phineas Bamusi to leave the club.

“I don’t respect you. I am going to fire you, give you your money and your clearance letter,” Tutisani told Bamusi. “From here, go to your bank and confirm. I am depositing your money from my personal account to yours,” he added. A senior player who refused to be named said the club does not respect their employees.

“Our issue here is simple. They were given money by Netone Cellular to pay us our outstanding salaries. Why are they misusing the intended use,” he said. Makepekepe has been grabbing headlines claiming to be taking the commercial route but now appears things are falling apart for the Greenside.

Recently they made an effort to cushion their employees in the face of COVID-19 after they made a door to door delivery of a 50kg of maize per head. This is a developing story. More updates will be available as they reach us.
