Court action over Tshwane disconnections

The City of Tshwane is being dragged to court over its revenue-collection campaign during which it is disconnect power to defaulting customers.

The city is owed R17-billion.

It’s been cracking the whip on non-paying businesses, entities, and government departments.

Some businesses have rushed to pay to avoid being left in the dark.

But others have gone to court to force Tshwane to reconnect the electricity supply.

The city says it’s preparing legal papers to defend its action in court.

That’s after the Centurion Club Crossing shopping centre served the city with court papers.

The city says it was deprived of an opportunity to oppose the company in court as the papers were served less than an hour before the matter was heard.

It says it will continue pulling the plug on defaulting customers.
