KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala says the recommendations in the July unrest report must be implemented with speed.
His province experienced the worst of the violence that followed former president Jacob Zuma’s incarceration last year.
More than 300 people were killed in KZN and Gauteng, and private and public property destroyed, dealing the economy a harsh blow.
Zikalala spoke to eNCA on a wide range of issues during the ANC’s two-day provincial lekgotla in Durban.
“We have seen the report, we will be studying it, but based on what we have seen, we welcome the report and we believe that the office of the President as the custodian of the report will lead in the implementation of the recommendations,” Zikalala said.
“We take it seriously and we say it reflects what we think was presented by all of those who were invited or called to make presentations.”
