Truck drivers in Pietermaritzburg demand to be heard

Truck drivers in Pietermaritzburg have given the Road Freight and Logistics Bargaining Council a deadline to receive their memorandum of demand.

The All Truck Drivers Forum and Allied SA are demanding a 15 percent wage increase and they want trucking companies to stop hiring foreign nationals as drivers.

Gugu Sokhela from the organization said “we have spoken to someone within the office.

“She’s promised to send someone in an hour or two. Should they not come the next step is that they will be receiving the memorandum on the N3 because it seems as if they’re not prepared to resolve some issues in the transport sector.

“Once the memorandum has been received the shutdown will be called off. We’ll wait for seven days for them to reply to our demands.”
