Position Purpose:

To manage approved business cases in terms of project planning, deliverables, budget availability, governance
requirements and sponsor expectations.
To manage projects’ set up to ensure that the project is delivered on time, within budget and according to the required
quality standards.
To manage key stakeholder engagements and ensure that project resources execute their functions according to project
execution plans and identified RACI.
To apply project management best practices to ensure the highest probability of success for each project.

The incumbent may be accountable for more than 1 project a time depending on the complexity of projects
Position outputs:

Is based on project management best practice (PMBoK 5th ed);

Will be applicable as per individual project requirements;

Will be applicable irrespective of execution strategy (EPCM or other);

Will be applicable in the context of Transnet processes:

Management of the Project Approved Business Case:

Ensuring business case validity through compliance with governance requirements. This will require extensive
communication through a memorandum, letters, etc to all levels in the organization.
Development of the project execution strategy
Facilitate and coordinate all planning activities to form the project management plan:
Project Scope Management (ORS)
Project Time Management
Project Cost Management
Project Quality Management
Project Human Resources Management
Project Communications Management
Project Risk Management
Project Procurement Management
Project Stakeholder Management
Development project budget and managing availability of project budget.
Initiation of the stage-gate process

Project Execution:

Direct and manage project work
Co-ordinate and quality assurance

Monitoring and Controlling:

Monitor and control project work

Close project or phase
Manage handover of project deliverables to end-user
Initiate post-implementation review

Transnet’s Project Life-cycle Process (PLP) may apply and may constitute a Project. The project managers are expected to

have a working knowledge of the PLP for application to relevant projects.

Qualifications & Experience:

Minimum Qualification of National Diploma/Bachelors degree/NQF level 7 in Engineering (Electrical – Signals and/or
Telecoms).
Minimum of 3 years experience in project management in the railway environment
Minimum of 2 years experience in the Railway Maintenance/Engineering environment
Formal training in Project management (Good Knowledge of PMBOK)
Eligible to register with ECSA within 12 months
