Gauteng EMS on high alert amid torrential rains

Gauteng Emergency Services are on high alert for possible flooding in low-lying areas and informal settlements.

The province has been caught in the grips of heavy rainfall since last week.

Authorities are advising motorists to be cautious on the roads and avoid flooded bridges.

They’re also urging residents not to leave paraffin stoves and braziers unattended and are also urging motorists to be extra cautious on the roads.

“So in terms of the incidents we had to respond to, we had to respond to mostly motor vehicle accidents from the beginning of the weekend,” said spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi.

“Even though we have not yet recorded any fatalities, we are still encouraging our motorists out there to continue being cautious on the road, and extend a safe following distance.

“Also try and avoid crossing roads and bridges which might be flooded.”
