Things get tense Mozambique requests for Air and Naval military support from SA to fight Islamic insurgency

Mozambique requests for Air and Naval military support from SA to fight Islamic insurgency. Mozambique is reportedly seeking air and naval military support from South Africa to stop food supplies reaching the Islamist insurgency in northern Mozambique, SABC reports.

According to the publication: More than two years after the start of an Islamist insurgency in northern Mozambique, security forces are still struggling to curb the growing violence that has killed hundreds of civilians and forced thousands of others to flee their homes.

The surge prompted the troika of SADC’s organ on politics to urgently meet in Harare, Zimbabwe, this week to discuss the situation in the Cabo Delgado region. International Relations Minister Naledi Pandor says Mozambique has officially requested support from South Africa.
