VACANCY: Ø Telehandler Operator

LOCATION: Ø Rustenburg, North West

JOB DESCRIPTION/DUTIES:

Ø The Employee is required to assist in workplace housekeeping.

Ø The Employee is required to assist technical / stores personnel during service, stock take, and maintenance.

Ø The Employee is required to be present and available during working hours, even when not allocated to designated job.

Ø The Employee is required to comply with relevant legislation in the workplace as well as rules and regulations related to Clients.

Ø The Employee is required to identify and report defects and abnormalities in equipment.

Ø The Employee is required to perform basic maintenance on equipment.

Ø The Employee is required to take part in training sessions as students or advisors, including safety toolbox talks.

Ø The Employee is required to work effectively with other members of a team or group.

Ø The employee warrants that he/she possesses the necessary experience, skills, and qualifications to perform his/her responsibilities and duties in terms of this limited duration contract.

Ø The employee is responsible for the safety of the crane operation as soon as the load is lifted clear of the ground. Because of this responsibility, whenever there is reasonable cause to believe that the lift might be dangerous or unsafe, the operator must refuse to lift until the concern has been reported to the supervisor, any hazards are rectified, and safety conditions are met. Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the Telehandler Operator include:

° Assembling and setting up the telehandler properly.

° Being aware of any site conditions that could affect the telehandler operation. Being particularly cautious around power lines. Refusing to operate if the telehandler or load comes closer to a power line than the absolute limit of approach specified by law.

° Being aware of the details of all inspections, maintenance, and other work done on the telehandler while in the field.

° Being familiar with the telehandler’s capacity chart. Understanding the correct meaning of all notes and warnings and being able to calculate or determine the telehandler’s actual net capacity for every possible configuration of the machine.

° Checking that the site is adequately prepared for the telehandler.

° Checking the capacity chart to ensure that the telehandler has enough net lifting capacity for every lift.

° Considering all factors that might reduce lift capacity and adjusting the load weight to suit. This will include such factors as weather conditions and ground conditions.

° Determining the attachment type and configuration required.

° Ensuring that the apprentice and/or assistant is in a safe place during operation.

° Exercising the right to refuse to operate the telehandler if there is cause to suspect the lift might be unsafe.

° Finding out the load weight and determining where the load is to be placed.

° Following the manufacturer’s operating instructions in accordance with the capacity chart.

° Having a thorough knowledge of the information contained in the telehandler’s operating manual.

° Informing the supervisor of any problems, needed maintenance, or necessary repairs to the machine. This should be done in writing, preferably on the machine’s pre-use inspection list.

° Inspecting and maintaining the telehandler regularly as prescribed by both Allied Crane Hire (Pty) Ltd and manufacturer.

° Knowing the machine well. Understanding its functions and limitations as well as its operating characteristics.

° Knowing basics of lifting procedures and ensuring that they are applied (this is possible only when the load is visible to the operator).

° Maintaining communication with signal persons.

° Moving the telehandler.

° Operating in a smooth, controlled, and safe manner.

° Reviewing the planned operation and requirements with the site supervision.

° Selecting (from the range diagram) the best boom and configuration to suit the load, site and lift conditions.

Ø Shutting down and securing the machine properly when it is unattended. The employee may be required from time to time to perform reasonable functions or duties that do not fall within the scope of his/her ordinary duties. By signing this limited contract, the Employee agrees to perform those functions when required.

WORKING HOURS:

Ø Monday to Friday: 07h00 until 16h30 (Normal Working Hours)

***Due to the nature of the business, it might from time to time be expected of the Telehandler Operator to work outside the normal working hours and on weekends.

GENDER: Ø Male/Female

AGE RANGE: Ø 25 to 45

CODE DRIVERS LICENSE REQUIRED: Ø Valid Code C1 and/or EC

***Must be willing to travel regularly to various company branches and operational sites.

LANGUAGE PREFERENCES:

Ø English (Fluent)

***Additional Languages advantageous

REQUIREMENTS (QUALIFICATIONS):

Ø Matric/Grade 12

REQUIREMENTS (EXPERIENCE):

Ø Minimum of 2 years’ experience

REQUIREMENTS (OTHER):

Ø Medically fit (fit to perform risk work)

Ø No criminal record

Ø Sober habits

Ø Traceable references
