Khanyi Mbau’s ex-boyfriend Tebogo Lerole fights GBV

Kwela Tebza member, Tebogo Lerole, is determined to make Mzansi a better country for women and children.

The musician, who is the chairman of an anti-gender-based violence NPO called Mzansi Act Now, is using the organisation to host a new project for the month of June.

The NPO will be hosting a food drive, boot camp walk and cycle against GBV from 12 to 20 June.

Tebogo told the publication this is part of their one-year celebration.

“We launched the organisation last year on 1 June, so we’re closing our first year.

It’s also the biggest month in the country, youth month. The first week of June is child protection week. And it’s also pride month. We’re also trying to commemorate those things though this initiative,” said Tebogo.

He said the main focus for this project is the youth.

“Our programmes are about giving back to the community, especially the youth.

We’ve just started the Mzansi Act Now Youth League. We do programmes that focus on the month of June through it,” said Tebogo.

“We’ve got many challenges that young people go through and we needed to cover those challenges, like teenage pregnancy, bullying and substance abuse.

Those are the bases we really need to cover, hence this project. We’re trying to create safe spaces for women and children in SA,” he said.

They will host a 5km walk against GBV and social ills on 12 June. A 35Km cycling against GBV and social ills on 13 June. A four-hour food parcel drive on 19 June and a GBV and social ills Boot Camp on 20 June.

“We’ll be meeting at certain venues to walk or whatever we are doing on that day. During the walk we’ll commemorate the youth of 1976 and the youth of today,” said Tebogo.

“During the food drive, we’ll invite our friends regardless of whether they have nice cars or not. We’ll need them to help us deliver the packages to orphanages, old age homes and women centres around Soweto. On the boot camp, we’ll be encouraging people to exercise, to keep healthy.

Tebogo said they have also decided to extend the programme to August.
