The South African Weather Service warns of severe thunderstorms as heavy rains hit parts of Gauteng and other provinces.
Thunderstorms battered parts of Gauteng, Limpopo, the North West and Mpumalanga on Monday afternoon.
The weather service warns of localised flooding, large amounts of hail and reduced visibility.
Officials say heavy rains will continue late into the evening in Johannesburg.
Emergency services are advising people to take care on the roads and those living close to river banks to be safe.
