Sibiya repeatedly tells court he can’t recall events after his arrest for Senzo Meyiwa murder

An accused in the Senzo Meyiwa trial repeatedly told the Pretoria High Court that he couldn’t remember most of the events that happened on the days after he was arrested and questioned on the football star’s murder.

Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya will spend a third day on the witness stand on Wednesday morning, testifying against the admission of a confession statement that he signed.

Sibiya told the court that he signed the confession that was already written because he wanted to save his life, as police had assaulted him.

Sibiya and four others stand accused of Meyiwa’s 2014 murder.

“I don’t remember” and “I don’t know the places the police took me” have become Sibiya’s mantra while on the witness stand.

He told the court that while he did not remember the questions that Colonel Nhanganyelwa Mbotho asked him when he was made to sign a confession at the Diepkloof Police Station, he knew for certain that he was not asked any questions on his constitutional rights.

State prosecutor Ronnie Sibanda accused Sibiya of fabricating a story about being assaulted and having a selective memory.
