Actor Sello Maake kaNcube mourns death of his mother

Legendary screen and theatre actor and staple on South African television Sello Maake kaNcube has announced the death of his mother, Virginia Maake, who died on July 1, 2021.

Maake kaNcube’s mother died as a result of Covid-19. The 61-year-old actor is most famous for his roles as Archie Moroka in soapies like SABC 1’s ‘Generations’, as Kgosi, the gay brother of Harriet Khoza in DSTV’s ‘The Queen’. He has also notably been in theatre productions such as William Shakespeare’s play Othello, as well as The Suit, based on Can Themba’s short story.Sello Maake KaNcube

The Maake family made the announcement through social media, asking the public to refrain from attending the private family funeral in order to ensure the safety of everyone.

‘It is with heavy hearts and sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Mrs Virginia Maake. She sadly succumbed to Covid-19 on the 1st of July.

‘We would like to thank you for your support thus far and due to Covid-19 restrictions our efforts in trying to keep everyone safe, kindly note we will be having a family-only ceremony. Your support and prayers are highly appreciated.’
