Tshwane Mayor sticking to his guns on Sawmu strike action

Tshwane Mayor, Cilliers Brink says an ultimatum has been issued to workers to return to work or face disciplinary action, including dismissal.

This after chaos broke out when Brink announced the City will not be granting wage increases to municipal workers. This is the second consecutive year Tshwane workers won’t receive wage increases.

Brink said the city is open to meeting with Samwu leadership.

“We are open to meeting with the leadership of Samwu in particular. We tried to accept a memorandum from them a few days ago, but because violence erupted between different factions of Samwu it was impossible to accept anything in that situation.”
