SANTACO mulls trigger behind taxi strike across Ekurhuleni

The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) in Ekurhuleni has confirmed its drivers have taken part in a shutdown across the East Rand.

Commuters at the Germiston taxi rank were left in limbo facing long queues on Thursday morning.

They have been urged to find alternative modes of transport.

SANTACO said its taxis will not be operating in Tembisa, Germiston, Benoni, Katlehong and Vosloorus until further notice.

The taxi council’s Themba Mkhonto: “We are aware, very much aware that everything has come to a standstill. We are trying to get to the bottom of what may have triggered this. As for now, we don’t have any answer for this.”
