SANDF engineers to assist in bridge-building programme

The SA Army Engineer Formation is looking forward to a busy year.
The Welisizwe Rural Bridges Programme will be scaled up to provide 95 bridges a year, from the current 14, according to President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Brigadier General Andries Mokoena Mahapa says army engineers will be working together with the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure.
He said, “as National Defense force particularly, the Army Engineer Formation we have done this before, it’s nothing new. If I can take you back, for the previous two financial year, we have built around 26 bridges in the EC and the last financial year, we build 13 bridges in KZN. So, it’s nothing new. However, I must make note that we are working together with the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure on this project.”
