PSL to charge Royal AM after on-field bonus saga

It never rains but pours for Royal AM. PSL to charge Royal AM after on-field bonus saga. Last weekend Royal AM owner Shauwn Mkhize and club chairman saw themselves trending for the wrong reasons after they showered Royal AM players with cash bonuses in front of cameras in the field of play.

The victory saw Royal AM edging Maritzburg United 2-1 in the KwaZulu-Natal derby win. However, in some viral videos, some of the players were hesitant about the situation.

However, it has been established that Royal AM is set to face punishment over the incident.

“The main charge is (to Royal AM) paying someone involved in a football match, a player or club official, money with regard to that match, “We have had quite a lot of kickback from supporters on this,” said PSL prosecutor Nande Becker.

In addition to being charged for handing out money, the PSL is set to charge Royal AM for other reasons.

“We are also charging the Covid-19 officer for failing to ensure everyone was wearing face masks. And we are charging the club for allowing an invasion of the demarcated area after the match. Only the people on the team sheets and on the bench are allowed on the pitch.

“There is also a charge of leaving the change room late (before kick-off)” added Becker.

Amidst all the controversies outside the field of play, Royal AM has been the DSTV Premiership’s surprise package thus far. The Chatsworth Stadium based club are currently third in the standings after having won four out of their six fixtures to date.

They trail runaway league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by four points, and Masandawana is the only side that has won more games than them in the league to date (5).

However, it was reported that SAFPU goes after Shauwn Mkhize for ‘making it rain’ R200 notes after Royal AM win.

The South African Football Players Union (SAFPU) has condemned Royal AM owner Shauwn Mkhize and her son for making it rain R200 after Royal AM win over Maritzburg United.

The club owners were captured on cameras splashing hefty amounts of cash. MaMkhize and her son Andile Mpisane were recorded handing out players money from brown envelopes on live TV soon after the final whistle in their DStv Premiership derby victory over Maritzburg United.
