Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga says schools will be ready to reopen on Monday despite a few issues.
Grade 7s and 12s will be the first to return to class.
“We are saying we as ready as could be. There are still some challenges in areas where we were struggling even before the lockdown, your sanitation, your water. Fortunately, the President has now since deployed the army,” said Motshekga.
“We are working with the Department of Water and Sanitation to help us deal with those areas…” she added.
Motshekga says at least 99 percent of Gauteng and the Western Cape schools are ready to reopen.
Minister Motshekga is expected to brief the media on school readiness on Sunday afternoon.
