TB HIV Care (THC), in existence since 1929, is an internationally recognised non-profit organisation. TB HIV Care provides health care services throughout South Africa to both the general population and communities at increased risk for HIV and TB, including adolescent girls and young women, inmates in correctional services, sex workers and people who use drugs.

Purpose of the position:

Transporting outreach teams, commodities and equipment to and from different locations and other duties related to being a driver, including vehicle maintenance, and observing all road safety and traffic laws.

Main job tasks, duties and responsibilities:

Ensures that all safety precautions are adhered to
Inspects the vehicle and reports defects to the relevant manager
Maintains a daily transportation log and ensures petrol slips are submitted on a weekly basis
Complies with relevant legislation and the organisation’s policies and procedures regarding vehicle maintenance
Ensures that the staff and vehicle are secure during outreach activities
Maintains client confidentiality and supports community outreach activities
When required and instructed, undertakes activities promoting HIV prevention
Conducts mapping and site profiling
Documents findings and submits mapping tool to data capturer
Ensures the latest emergency numbers are listed in the vehicle
Complies with the standard operating procedures for vehicles
Picks up and delivers commodities as required and instructed, including delivery of waste, depositing lab samples and picking up condoms from Department of Health
Moves heavy items when required and instructed

Education and experience:

Grade 12 certificate
Demonstrates sensitivity in working with vulnerable or hard-to-reach populations, for example, people who inject drugs (PWID)
Minimum two years’ driving experience
Valid code 10 driver’s licence with a professional driving permit (PDP)
Ability to communicate in English, isiZulu and another South African language
Intermediate level computer literacy (including Excel)

Key skills and competencies:

Experience in HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support programmes an advantage
Good attention to detail and accuracy
Good communication skills
Organisational and planning skills
Demonstrates a strong professional attitude and behaviour at all times
Experience in PWID programme is beneficial
Non-judgmental, trustworthy and empathetic personality
High level of numeracy with excellent attention to detail
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with stakeholders
Good problem-solving ability
Very good reasoning ability
