Public Enterprises Ministry wants SAA route changes reviewed

Pravin Gordhan and Cyril Ramaphosa

The government will ask South African Airways (SAA) business rescue practitioners to review their announcement on cancelling unprofitable routes.

All domestic routes except Cape Town were cancelled, as well as some regional and international routes.

Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan says the government will make representations to the practitioners.

He says they need to balance trimming unprofitable routes with the need to ensure the sustainability of the airline.

Gordhan says the decisions have caused market and customer uncertainty that may jeopardize the long-term future of SAA.
