PSL has not seen the best of Amakhosi yet, says coach Solinas

“The best Kaizer Chiefs is still coming,” said Solinas. “We had two weeks (during the international break) to improve and to fix mistakes. The team worked hard – and there are now also good players coming in, like Lebo (Manyama), Dax and Mario Booysen. Yes, the best of Chiefs is still to be seen.

Kaizer Chiefs hammered Cape Town City 4-1 at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday afternoon, but Amakhosi coach Giovanni Solinas wasn’t about to get carried away. In fact, as far as the Italian is concerned, the PSL has still not seen the best of Chiefs. The best, he says, is still to come.

“We played well (against City on Saturday) and I have to thank everybody in the team for the effort they gave. “From the bench, I saw the solidarity of the players and I was happy with the result and the performance. Our fans deserved it, and I also think that the fans made the difference (today). They supported the team and the players did well for them.”

Solinas gave new signing Manyama a debut against his former club but stressed that the player is still far from match-ready. Like Chiefs, the best is yet to come from Manyama.

“It was Lebo’s first game,” said Solinas. “He arrived at Chiefs with no pre-season training. He has been working with the fitness coach; he is not yet 100 per cent, but once he gets his fitness up, he will help us to score more goals.

“Whether we are playing home or away, we don’t change our philosophy. We play attacking football and we try to win.  “So I am happy with the win over City, who are a very good team, but it’s important that we stay humble and keep our feet on the ground.”

Next up for Chiefs is a tricky trip to Goble Park in Bethlehem tomorrow to take on Solinas’ previous club, Free State Stars. The Italian said: “Free State Stars will be a special game for me, it will be emotional. They gave me an opportunity to work in the PSL.

I respect Stars, and I wish them all the best, but this is football, and everybody will be pushing to win.”
