Police are on standby following violent service delivery protests in Bekkersdal.
Earlier on Wednesday, officers used teargas and rubber bullets to disperse crowds angry about the lack of electricity.
Officials say work is underway to bring infrastructure to the people but inconstant investment has made work difficult.
Residents say they have been living in the area for years without access to basic services.
