The SAPS has been trending for the wrong reasons these past few weeks. It seems this will not stop anytime soon. Another police officer was captured hiding behind a sign and attending to his phone but not doing his rightful job.
Most have described this behavior as being complacent. The police officer is so concentrated on his phone and many believe that he is on WhatsApp. Police Officers have been blamed for a lot of things recently. Videos showing abuse of power, harassing civilians, and slacking whilst on duty have been circulating on social media. Just a week ago an officer was captured very drunk whilst on duty.
Many are questioning the SAPS if they can really step up and protect the public. People are furious after seeing the pictures of the officer behind the sign. Others are arguing if it is allowed for an officer to hide behind a sig during working hours. Many have a lot to say and here are some of the comments:
“Are they even allowed to do that?”
“Yesses!! Yesterday I saw two acting like they’re helping a broken down truck, kanti the truck is part of the speed trap”
“This used to piss my grandfather right off, I remember him nearly fighting with a cop saying “if I had seen you I would have slowed down, and law wouldn’t be broken”
“Maybe He is blocking the wind phela its cold”
“This is illegal…i can win a case against a police who does that.”
“That’s not true… The head of Metro (some Indian dude, forgot his name) Policing stated that they’re allowed to do that and nowhere in the constitution or law book are they not allowed.”
“Lol they think we were born yesterday”
“But the new law says, Traffic officer should not use any object to hide, in the bushes… He should be visible to the motorist.”
All in all the authorities need to deal with such cases of complacency. If criminals are watching then surely they will think they can evade the police. If self-proclaimed prophet Bushiri evaded the authorities then there is a long way to go till safety is guaranteed.
