DA wants Parliamentary debate on Jacob Zuma

The official opposition wants Parliament to intervene in the crisis around former President Jacob Zuma.

DA leader John Steenhuisen says there cannot be different rules for citizens, and for Zuma supporters attending a super-spreader event.

“I think the purpose of the debate would be to do what Parliament needs to do to hold the Executive, the President, and its Ministers accountable for the events over the course of the last few days,” Steenhuisen said.

“It’s important we get clarity of how the Police Minister used the state attorney to write a letter to the apex court, essentially second-guessing the judgment.

“Why on earth do we have a situation where lockdown regulations are applied to citizens and yet the Zuma supporters are immune to those regulations?”
