THE amount of pain Orlando Pirates coach Rhulani Mokwena is feeling is such that he can’t eat. Mokwena was left reeling after the Buccaneers suffered yet another defeat, crashing out of the MTN8 quarter-final at the hands of Highlands Park.
The 1-0 loss followed the 3-0 to SuperSport United in the league. The abrupt departure of head coach Micho completed a miserable weekend for the Soweto giants. And it has left Mokwena rather despondent.
Said Mokwena: “The amount of investment, the amount put in by the entire technical team has always amounted to the same sort of feeling both in victory and defeat. Asked to explain how it felt being in charge of a losing team. There’s no difference. The wounds and the scares are just as painful.
“I’d say the loss cuts the same. The difference is just the job title, but it cuts just as deep. You struggle even to eat for the next few days or speak to anybody because you feel the pain regardless of title that you serve under.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach has been tasked with guiding the Soweto giants, following Micho’s shock resignation. Bucs next face AmaZulu at King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban on Tuesday (7.30pm). But will Mokwena be able to pick his charges up?
Mokwena added: “Once there’s an emotional connotation, you are then able to at least find some form of button to press to help and assist in turning things quicker then allowing to continue the way they are going. So signs are good in that respect.
