Ruling expected in Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula’s bid for an interdict against her arrest

The Pretoria High Court will hand down a ruling on Tuesday morning on Speaker of Parliament Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula’s interdict of her arrest.
The Speaker approached the courts last week when she was expected to hand herself in for corruption-linked charges.
Mapisa-Nqakula, who took special leave hours after the news of her imminent arrest broke, is accused of taking millions of rands in bribes when she was defence minister.
She has refused to hand herself in for arrest before the State hands its docket over to her lawyers.
But she also said that the State had no case and that her dignity and reputation was being attacked.
The Speaker has also accused the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) of using apartheid tactics against her and leaking information of her case, thus subjecting her to a trial by media.
But the State has opposed this application, saying she doesn’t have the right to evade arrest and acceding to Mapisa-Nqakula’s demands would create a dangerous precedent.
While the State wants the speaker to have her time in the dock as an accused, they have said that they will not be opposing bail.
