Trouble in paradise: Sello Maake kaNcube and wife, Pearl headed for divorce

Well-known South African legendary actor Sello Maake kaNcube has reportedly filed for divorce from his wife Pearl Mbewe.

According to a local publication, the former The Queen actor and his wife of three years separated last year.

A source told the publication that the pair – who got married in 2021 – had an argument about Maake kaNcube’s alleged former partner resulting in the actor chasing Mbewe out of their marital home in Dube, Soweto.

The former partner is reportedly Cynthia Hlahla, also known as Lacoste, with whom Maake KaNcube was reportedly flirting. Sunday World reports that in their text conversations, the Skeem Saam star wanted to know if Hlahla was in a relationship. He reportedly also told her that she’s always on his mind. However, Hlahla allegedly did not buy his story.

“She said he was just pretending to love her, saying she knew he was in love with Pearl. She even asked him to be honest with her and tell her if he wants her to help him leave South Africa for the US instead of lying about having the hots for her,” said the source.

After Maake kaNcube’s wife moved out, the actor reportedly trued to rekindle their flame by sending a delegation to pay the remaining lobolo for her, however, Mbewe rejected his advances.

Upon failing to win Mbewe back, the actor contacted Swanepoel van Zyl Attorneys to help him file for divorce. The firm reportedly wanted R25 000 payment upfront.

Speaking to Sunday World, Maake KaNcube confirmed contacting the law firm.

“I have not even paid them yet,” he said.

Maake kaNcube was previously married to Palesa Mboweni whom he tied the knot with in 2015 but divorced eight months later.

In 2022, the Pretoria High Court ordered the ex-couple to divide and equally share their estate because they were married in a community of property.

Hitting back in an Instagram post, Maake KaNcube said: “I can not believe I was married to a con artist and you guys called me names when I realized my blunder and divorced her after eight months!‌

“I’m not fighting this matter because I want to bash my ex-wife, I want the truth to be known and maybe I can help the young men who may fall victim to women similar to my ex-wife.

“For the record, I must categorically and unequivocally state that I don’t think all women behave or do things that my ex-wife did to me.

“Just be careful and do your independent character assessment before you commit to anyone. The shares don’t even matter to me its a matter of principle, this marriage was flawed and based on falsehood to start with, the misrepresentation by my ex-wife is even too disgusting to mention all the things she did. I mean the woman tried to change her children’s surnames to my name without my knowledge and I wouldn’t have known if I didn’t overhear a telephonic conversation between her and her mother.”
