Naomi Ackie leads nominees for BAFTA Rising Star Award 2023

Naomi Ackie, Daryl McCormack and Sheila Atim are among the nominees for the BAFTA Rising Star Award 2023. The trio are joined on the shortlist by “Living” star Aimee Lou Wood and “Emily” actress Emma Mackey.
The 2023 Bafta rising star nominations have been announced, and there is some massive talent to contend with.

Known as the gong every young actor would sell their agent for, the EE rising star award is among the most hotly anticipated category of Baftas night.

(Both because it recognises talent teetering on the cusp of stardom, and that it’s the only major movie award voted for by the public.)

Established in 2005, the rising star award has an impressive roll call of previous winners, from James McAvoy and Kristen Stewart to Tom Holland and Daniel Kaluuya. Now the 2023 rising stars nominees have been revealed, with those tipped for future stardom including Naomi Ackie, Sheila Atim and Daryl McCormack. I think so highly of her as well as being a friend and a colleague. I am a huge admirer of her work.”

The nominees confessed that they had trouble keeping their recognition under wraps after telling their loved ones.

McCormack said: “I did tell my mum. I didn’t tell the rest of the family, but I went home for Christmas, and my uncles can’t lie at all. I was like, ‘Guys, I’ve been nominated’, and they were like, ‘No way’. My uncle said, ‘If you ever want to keep a secret, don’t tell your mother

Ackie, who plays music icon Whitney Houston in the biopic “I Wanna Dance with Somebody”, added: “I prefaced it with, ‘Don’t tell nobody’. I did tell people who are very close to me. I hate tension. I’m the kind of person who skips to the end of a book before reading it.”

The winner of the 2023 Rising Star Award will be revealed at the BAFTA Film Awards, which will be held at London’s Royal Festival Hall on February 19.
