Process of identifying body of sixth 7-year-old Naledi victim completed

The bereaved family of a seven-year-old boy who died in a case of suspected food poisoning in Naledi, Soweto, completed the process of identifying his body on Tuesday afternoon.

Katleho Olifant was initially the sole survivor after five of his friends died and were buried last week.

According to police, the children allegedly bought snacks from a spaza shop before presenting worrying symptoms and dying shortly thereafter.

On Tuesday, Thlathlane Street was packed with neighbours and family members who trickled into the Olifant home to pay their respects.

The grieving family said their ordeal was exacerbated by ongoing investigations, which they hope will uncover the truth behind the seven-year-old’s passing.

His aunt, Sibongile Sekgalo said: “The mother needs answers, she needs closure pertaining to what her child really consumed. That is what we’re hoping for.”
