South African artists have led all to boycott the Africa Unite Concert featuring Burna Boy as one of the headline acts. The Nigerian rapper is due to perform in Pretoria on 23 November at a concert aimed at ‘rebuilding trust and respect amongst African nations despite vowing to never set foot in the country in a series of controversial tweets back in September.
But now, a number of local artists have thrown a spanner in the works by outright refusing to share a stage with the Killin Dem hitmaker.
They’ve also appealed to fellow headline acts – like Jidenna and Kwesta – as well as South Africans to boycott attending the concert for several reasons, including fears the Naija star’s presence may incite violence. The group of artists under the umbrella of the Tshwane Collective, have written an open letter to the Department of Arts & Culture about the plans to boycott the ‘profit-making’ concert.

Why should Burna Boy be paid to unite Africa through a concert while he devided it by spreading propaganda based on fake news. Dude didn’t even apologize and he’s had close to two months. He must not set foot here like he said he wouldn’t

S.A is ground zero for burna boy, if he comes the stage should be 5km away from the people coz bottles are definitely gon unite on his head like tira😂😂😂 but all in all burna boy is a great artist and we don’t want him to perform in mzansi pic.twitter.com/m4BH16Asea

Ek se … @burnaboy all we want is an apology. We know 🇿🇦 is not perfect. But we took you in as our own before you reached these levels. You say you are an AFRICAN GIANT, prove it.
