Rea Vaya and Metrobus services remain suspended

The City of Johannesburg said it would like to resume some of its services.

The city had to suspend Rea Vaya and Metrobus services due to ongoing violent protests.

Some stores and buildings have been vandalized during the unrest.

The city is calling on communities to refrain from taking part in these illegal acts.

Deputy Director of Communications at the City of Johannesburg Nthatisi Modingoane said: “The MMC for Public Safety [Cllr Michael Sun] issued a very stern warning and communities to refrain from participating in these activities.

“As the city, we are joining forces with everybody and stakeholders, Santaco, NGOs and so far to just condemn these activities and really get the city working again because this is just setting us back, especially this pandemic [COVID-19] which already impacted people in terms of employment and other economic activities.”
