Bus taking ANC supporters to rally crashes: Mbalula confirms 6 dead

What was meant to be a festive trip to an ANC 108th anniversary rally has ended in tragedy – Six fatalities have been confirmed after a bus carrying supporters to the event crashed – Minister Fikile Mbalula has expressed his sorrow in a statement issued shortly after the incident.

Some supporters who left home earlier on Saturday en route to an ANC 108th anniversary rally will never reach their destination. TimesLIVE reports that at least six citizens have lost their lives after a bus carrying supporters crashed on the R81 in Limpopo. The celebration was to be held at Mohlabaneng village near Giyani.

Limpopo transport MEC Dickson Masemola told SABC new that he had been at the scene where some were declared dead immediately, while others waited to be rescued out of the wreck: “These people who were involved in the accident are our comrades who were also on their way to the rally [at the Lebaka Sports Complex].

Transport spokesperson Joel Seabi commented that six fatalities could be confirmed after the bus overturned during the accident: “There has been a horrible accident. A number of people were rushed to the hospital. Six have been verified dead at the scene.

The real cause of the accident will be determined by law enforcement agencies.” In a statement responding to the tragedy, Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula sent the families of those lost his condolences.
