Marcus Rashford reacts to Man United red card after clash with Phil Bardsley

Manchester United player Marcus Rashford was sent off in the Premier League fixture vs Burnley and has spoken about his red card on Twitter.

Manchester United Manager Jose Mourinho believes Marcus Rashford showed ‘naivety’ as he received a first career red card in Manchester United’s 2-0 win at Burnley.

Former United defender Phil Bardsley kicked out at Rashford in the 71st minute and Rashford responded by butting heads with the Burnley full-back. Referee Jon Moss flourished a yellow card at Bardsley but then dismissed Rashford.

21-year-old Marcus Rashford is now suspended for three domestic matches and will next be available outside the Champions League for the fixture at West Ham on September 29. Mourinho suggested Bardsley, who was filmed punching Wayne Rooney in his kitchen three-and-a-half years ago, used his experience to his advantage.

“Moss had a good game, good performance really,” Mourinho said. “I think the same as the two assistants.

“And in that action the only thing I can say is probably the experience of Bardsley with 20 years of football against the impulse and naivety of a guy that is on top football for about three years but is still a young kid.

“Harsh? I don’t know, could get a yellow card for both and keep going. Maybe. I cannot say.”

Rashford said after the game ’emotions got the better of me’. “Emotions got the better of me, I shouldn’t of reacted like that. Sorry to everyone at the club and all the fans,” Rashford wrote on Twitter.

Paul Pogba scored his previous two penalties this term against Leicester and Brighton but his weak effort at Turf Moor was easily parried by Joe Hart. Mourinho suggested he would not prevent Pogba from taking United’s next spotkick.

“If he wants [to take the next one], yes,” Mourinho added.
