After confirming that Mauro Icardi is no longer in Inter Milan’s plans, coach Antonio Conte has now confirmed his interest signing one of Manchester United’s highest paid stars.
Ahead of Saturday’s encounter with the Red Devils, Conte spoke openly about his admiration for Red Devils striker Romelu Lukaku during this transfer window.
Reports in Italy claimed that the Serie A outfit has already begun talks with the Manchester outfit, but negations have not progressed due to Inter’s valuation.
Conte admitted he was frustrated with the slow progress in the club’s pursuit of Lukaku, who netted 15 goals in 45 games for United last season.
“Frustrated is a big word. Lukaku is United’s player and this is the reality,” Conte was quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.
“You know very well that I like this player, also in the past when I was Chelsea’s coach and I tried to bring him. But I repeat today Lukaku is a player of United. I have great respect for United.
“I consider him an important player for us to have a good improvement. We know which is our situation; we will see what happens.”
