Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Aston Villa and England star Jack Grealish in a £100m move that makes the midfielder the most expensive British player of all-time.
He calls time on a Villa career that has spanned since 2001, when he joined his boyhood club as a six-year-old, to join Man City on a six-year deal. He will wear Sergio Aguero’s old No.10 shirt for City.
The prospect of Grealish lining up in a City side that already includes names such as Kevin De Bruyne, Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling is a frightening thought for opposition teams and fans alike. Grealish joins off the back of an impressive Euro 2020 campaign with England, where he made an impact with a number of assists despite not featuring as regularly as many expected.
Pep Guardiola’s hopes of securing a fourth Premier League title in five seasons will be boosted by Grealish’s arrival, fending off interest from local rivals Manchester United in the process who were once regularly linked with a move for the Birmingham-born star.
