Maimane says ANC is behind recent violent protests

The Democratic Alliance says it has evidence that recent protests in DA-led municipalities were orchestrated by the ANC.

The DA held a press briefing earlier on Sunday, led by its leader Mmusi Maimane and leaders from municipalities it governs.

Maimane says they’ll give the national police commissioner their evidence and will also be laying a formal complaint to the IEC against the ANC.

“This is cheap politicking, it’s become even worse now that it’s now being sponsored by President Ramaphosa. He now sits at the top of it. This is not an organic thing. It is him at the helm of government going out of the way, making a decision. Imagine the president of the republic going to a community to instill protests against a government,” said Maimane.

“We’ve got voice recordings, we’ve got WhatsApp messages, we’ve got evidence of people who started to loot from the Alexandra renewal project and therefore, when I meet with the South African Police Service, I will present this composite evidence from all the respective cities,” he said.

Service delivery protests have been on the rise in the past couple of weeks.

This as South Africans prepare to go to the polls in less than a month.
