A bakkie and SUV collided head-on, leaving three people dead and 13 others injured.
The deadly crash between a Renault SUV and a Toyota bakkie happened on the R524 near Tshakuma outside Thohoyandou in Limpopo on Thursday afternoon (17 December).
Limpopo Transport and Community Safety spokesman Mike Maringa cited reckless and negligent driving as a possible cause of the accident.
“It’s alleged the driver of the Sedan was driving recklessly and facing the oncoming traffic. He collided head-on with a bakkie. Three people were certified dead on the scene. “Two of the deceased were in the Sedan and the third victim was travelling in the bakkie,” said Maringa.
He one person was rushed to Tshilidzini Hospital in a critical condition while the 12 others escaped with minor injuries.
“MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya has called on motorists to obey the rules of the road. She’s also worried about the increasing number of fatal crashes.”
