Minister Fikile Mbalula briefs SA on Level 2 transport regulations

Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula announced the new COVID-19 regulations related to transport.

The new regulations and directions follow President Cyril Ramaphosa’s pronouncement of opening the economy and moving to Level 2 of the government’s risk-adjusted approach. Mbalula on Monday called for stricter drunk driving laws.

“COVID or no COVID, alcohol and drunk and driving is part of South Africa’s problem,” Mbalula said.  When COVID arrived we were in the process of implementing the Aarto Bill that the president has signed into an act.

“I was also in Parliament to amend the regulations to ensure that now you are now going to be arrested in South Africa if you are found drinking alcohol.”
