Law enforcement will intensify for year-end festivities

Thousands of drivers have already spent time in jail for drunk driving and speeding this month.

People are still disobeying curfew and other lockdown regulations.

Officials say law enforcement will be intensified to make sure people comply with lockdown regulations.

“The New Year’s weekend is particularly challenging, people travel all over, others make last-minute drives to the coast,” says Road Traffic Management Corporation spokesperson, Simon Zwane.

“We will be intensifying law enforcement on all roads and in the residential areas where we know festivities will take place,” he adds.

According to Zwane, the RTMC has noticed that people are having parties in parks in residential areas.

“We expect that will be the case on New Year’s Day and New Year’s Eve,” says Zwane.
