Kim Kardashian paid tribute to the spirit of Marilyn Monroe at the 2022 Met Gala by wearing the starlet’s actual dress, and by dying her hair platinum blonde. The iconic actress kept her hair light and bright, and Kardashian said she was in the chair for 14 hours to achieve the same lift off her black tresses. However, she showed up to the red carpet with all of that blonde hair up in a bun, which isn’t really a look that Monroe ever rocked.
There were some conspiracies from fans and hairdressers that suggested something went wrong with the bleaching process and her overall tone was not even enough to leave her hair down or style it differently. But Kardashian is ready to show it off now! On Thursday, the beauty mogul was posted in all her blonde beauty on Instagram by her hairstylist Chris Appleton in a carousel of images showing it down and even as can be.
Blonde season is back,” he wrote in the caption, which seems to imply that Kardashian is sticking with this color for longer than a day. Appleton told Vogue that the bun was about highlighting the dress over Kardashian’s hair transformation and didn’t mention any issues with the bleaching.
“The hair look was simple to highlight the platinum colour, giving the hair color and dress the attention,” he said. “I wanted it to be iconic to Marilyn, but also iconic to Kim when she has her blonde moment.”
Kardashian has talked quite a bit about what it took to get into the famous dress, from some extreme dieting to working with a conservationist on how to wear it without causing any damage. The dress is best known for being the one Monroe wore in 1962 when she sang a very sensual version of “Happy Birthday” to the president of the United States.
“I’m extremely respectful to the dress and what it means to American history. I would never want to sit in it or eat in it or have any risk of any damage to it, and I won’t be wearing the kind of body makeup I usually do,” she said. “Everything had to be specifically timed and I had to practice walking up the stairs.
