Maskandi singer Khuzani Mpungose drags KZN Awards to court

After a long and unsuccessful battle to get his prize money from the KZN Entertainment Awards, Khuzani Mpungose is taking legal action.

The maskandi artist won in the KZN’s Most Loved and Best Maskandi categories but is yet to receive a cent of the R600 000 in prize money he was promised.

Khuzani said when he won the awards, held at the Durban ICC in December last year, he was promised the money by March.

When that did not happen, he was promised it by June.

He told Daily Sun: “Even fans who voted for me with their money are hurt by what the organisers are doing. I’m tired of dealing with them directly. From now on, they will be dealing with my lawyers.”

Khuzani said June came and passed, and the organisers did not even contact him to explain what the problem was.

“Now I have decided not to communicate with them because they don’t bother to give an update on what is happening,” he said.

Awards organiser Mhlo Gumede said an announcement about the prize money would be made soon. “We will start by communicating with the award recipients before we make those announcements.”
