Qualifications and Work Experience

Minimum of a Certificate in Environmental Health Safety or Occupational Health and Safety
National Diploma in Environmental Health Safety or Occupational Health and Safety will be an advantage
SHEMTRAC or similar will be an advantage
HIRA
Must have 2 to 3 years proven experience as Junior Health Safety Officer or a similar role
Knowledge of legislation e.g. OSHAEPA and procedures
Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices
Report writing skills for health and safety
People orientation skills
Initiating action skills
Quality orientation skills
Planning and organizational skills
Attention to detail skills
Proficient in MS Office
Excellent communication skills with the ability to present and explain health and safety topics
Valid drivers license

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensure that there is provision in the budget before the purchase of PPE
Obtain quotations from suppliers
Ensure timeous invoicing and adherence to procurement invoicing process
Maintain the HS System and implement in new Company sites under Managers supervision
Conduct daily floor walks, at least four times a day
Conduct weekly workplace inspection
Conduct PTO Planned Task Observation of personnel to identify issues or nonconformity e.g. not using protective equipment
Ensure that toolbox talks are conducted weekly
Oversee contractors installations, maintenance, disposal of substances, etc.
Stop any unsafe acts or processes that are potentially dangerous or unhealthy
Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety legislations e.g. OHSA
Keep records and investigate incidents submitted by SHE Reps to determine causes and preventive measures
Closeout of incident investigations
Report incidents to workman compensation authorities
Report and investigate near misses
Ensure receipt of SHE Rep monthly reports and resolve any defects
Prepare reports on occurrences and provide information to management monthly
Raise noncompliances when required and escalate to respective department manager for corrective action
Conduct in-house safety training on risk assessments and safe operating procedures, enforcing preventative measures
Conduct quarterly checks on SHE Reps safety files
Conduct quarterly SHE Rep meetings
Responsible for health and safety general administrative duties e.g. compiling safety files
Identify training of Fire Marshalls, First Aiders, SHE Reps, Senior HSE Managers and scaffolding ladder inspector, etc.
Conduct safety inductions for all new employees on commencement of employment
Conduct safety induction six-monthly for all employees
Suggest corrective action to management to ensure a safe and healthy working environment
Promote awareness of OHSA to employees and interns
Communication of incidents and outcome to all staff
Liaise with Security department and Facilities department when required
Plan own learning and training schedule to ensure effective execution of own job and support the lifelong learning philosophy
Participate and contribute to problem-solving discussions and ideation for innovation in the workplace in support of the continuous improvement healthy workplace philosophy
