Judicial Inspectorate: Decaying prisons put staff, inmates at risk

The Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services has found inhumane conditions in prisons.

It noted leaking roofs, broken windows, and dangerous electrical installations.

Judge Edwin Cameron says the problem actually begins before imprisonment.

He also says police are targeting the wrong people.

“We’ve made a wrong turn in sentencing, we need to invest in crime intelligence,” says Cameron.

“That’s not logical, not justice, not constitutional, it’s nothing,” he adds.
