Many people are unaware that James Bond himself, actor Sean Connery, who died yesterday, was very nearly a Man United player, having been offered a £25 a week contract by Sir Matt Busby in 1953.
But Connery turned the contract down. “I really wanted to accept it because I loved football, but I realised that a top-class footballer could be over the hill by the age of 30, and I was already 23.
“I decided to become an actor and it turned out to be one of my more intelligent moves.”
