IPL: Sunrisers take on Punjab in battle for top spot

Sunrisers Hyderabad will be wary of another ‘Gayle storm’ as they aim to end Punjab’s four-match winning streak.

Second, placed Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) travel to the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium where they will face off against third-placed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in match 25 of this season’s Indian Premier League (IPL) on Thursday. The last time these two teams met this season in Mohali, SRH were blown away by a ‘Gayle-Storm’ that hit the stadium.

Sunrisers will be brimming with confidence from their previous outing in Mumbai where in spite of missing their best bowlers in Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Billy Stanlake they managed to defend the lowest total (118) in the IPL this season, bowling out the Mumbai Indians for just 87 runs.

Punjab too put on a spectacular bowling display in their previous outing in Delhi after their batting line-up missing Chris Gayle due to soreness was able to post just 143 runs on the board. With Delhi expected to chase down the total, the KXIP bowlers stretched the game to the very last over before snatching a last ball victory.
Both team captains will be hoping their team’s form continues as they seek to cement their place in this season’s playoff spots.
