Concern over increase in abandoning of children

At least 250 babies were abandoned in South Africa last year.

The Department of Social Development says this was a noticeable increase, but NGOs say the figure is much higher.

For example, Door of Hope says research suggests that in fact 3,500 babies are abandoned every year.

Well-known South African legendary actor Sello Maake kaNcube has reportedly filed for divorce from his wife Pearl Mbewe. According to a local publication, the former The Queen actor and his wife of three years separated last year.
