IEC official removed from Benoni voting station

The Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) removed a Deputy presiding officer from a voting station in Benoni, Ekurhuleni. This following an investigation into a viral video that emerged on Monday.

The video showing a party agent assisting with the transfer of special votes in their double envelopes from a ballot bag caused a bit of confusion on Twitter.
The IEC said, the transfer of special votes from bags to ballot boxes is normal procedure, however, the handling of any electoral material by any party agent is strictly prohibited.

Party agents’ role
Check and verify the seals on the ballot boxes to ensure they are intact (i.e. unbroken) before the boxes are opened.
Witness the process whereby the status of a questionable ballot paper is determined.
Witness the completion of the result forms and add their signatures.
Copy the results for that voting station.
No communication with people outside the venue is allowed until the results are finalised
