Half-time: Sweden 0-1 England England go in for the break with a 1-0 lead following 45 minutes of largely attritional and awful football. Harry Maguire scored with a bullet header from a corner, while Raheem Sterling has missed a glorious opportunity to double England’s lead. Sweden has offered little and look very ponderous, but don’t need to press the panic button just yet. That said, they were in a major panic in the closing moments of that first half.
HARRY MAGUIRE FIRES ENGLAND INTO THE LEAD. This was the only way they looked like scoring. A corner is swung in from the left by Ashley Young and the central defender leaps above the pack and heads home.
Hendo plays a first-time pass over the defence and Raheem Sterling beats the offside trap to get to the ball. He brings it down beautifully but fails to finish. That was poor from the English winner.
Remember the super fun quarter-final between the red and yellow teams last night. Yeah this wasn’t anything like that. Nevertheless, England playing in red, lead at the break. They have largely remained untroubled at the back and have played with more confidence after Maguire’s goal in the 30th minute. The Swedes need more creativity going forward.`
