Three people have been arrested in Hout Bay outside Cape Town, following violent protests in the area.
Several buildings, including a Department of Forestry and Fisheries office, were set alight at the harbour.
The community’s demanding a search for a man they allege was shot by police while he was poaching abalone.
The offices of the department of agriculture, forestry and fisheries in the harbour have been damaged in a fire.
The City of Cape Town’s JP Smith says an official from the department’s home has also been torched.
Emergency services have been deployed to the area.
The NSRI has confirmed that the search is continuing for the missing man.
“Despite an extensive search, no sign of the missing man had been found,” said NSRI spokesman Craig Lambinon.
He said concerned family had raised the alarm, reporting that the boat was overdue since Friday night.
